VAG EA888.3 - TVS Flexfuel calibration

Flexfuel Conversion: More Power and Freedom to Choose Your Fuel

With a Flexfuel conversion, you can enjoy increased power and the flexibility to run your vehicle on either gasoline or ethanol, depending on your preference.

This article focuses on the EA888 Gen3 engine, specifically the 2013-2020 2.0 TFSI engine with SIMOS engine management. This engine is widely used in popular models like the VW Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Audi A3/S3, Seat Leon, Skoda Superb, and many others.

Want to enable your car to run on E85 ethanol fuel and even gain 10-15% more power?

At ECU Helsinki, we offer a unique service to adjust VAG engine management systems to automatically adapt to the ethanol content in your fuel tank. In simple terms, your engine will continue to run perfectly on gasoline, but you can also fill up with E85 ethanol in any amount. The engine's performance and calibration will seamlessly adjust based on the ethanol content flowing from the tank.

To achieve this, we install an ethanol sensor in your car that provides real-time information to the engine management system about the fuel type in the line. We then program the engine management system to adjust its settings dynamically based on this data.

Depending on your car’s tuning level, we may also upgrade injectors and/or fuel pumps, particularly for high-performance builds. This modification is suitable for stock vehicles, mild Stage 1 setups, and even high-powered Stage 4 builds with 600-700hp.

Why Choose E85? What are the Benefits of Ethanol Fuel?

E85 is every tuner’s best friend. It has a high octane rating of at least 104, making it ideal for performance use. In addition, ethanol has other benefits for tuning, such as significantly lower combustion temperatures. It burns cleaner and, even accounting for its slightly higher consumption rate, is often more cost-effective than gasoline.

These properties allow for more aggressive ignition timing, which significantly improves engine efficiency.

Example:
A Stage 2 tuned engine producing 380hp at a given boost level could, with proper ethanol tuning, reach 420-430hp at the same boost pressure while delivering sharper and more responsive performance. The turbocharger isn’t subjected to additional stress, and exhaust temperatures are even cooler.

Is This the Same as an Ethanol Conversion Kit or "E85 Tune"?

No, these are entirely different. Some aftermarket kits enable 2.0 TFSI engines to run on E85 by adjusting the fuel mixture, allowing the engine to operate normally. However, such kits do not adjust other engine parameters, so you won’t achieve the same performance or benefits as a true Flexfuel calibration.

Our solution integrates directly with the car’s factory engine management system, as if it were factory-calibrated. This ensures that numerous engine parameters are dynamically optimized for each ethanol percentage in the tank.

Some providers offer fixed E85 or E30 maps, where the tuning is calibrated for a specific ethanol percentage. While this approach delivers power gains, it’s not practical for daily use. For example, depending on the season or fuel availability, you might need to switch between gasoline and E85. Mixed ratios like E30 or E40 require careful calculation at the pump to achieve the correct ethanol blend.

With our Flexfuel calibration, you can confidently refuel without worrying about calculations, as the system automatically adjusts to the ethanol content.
